ANNA TANGIYAN

SURF Student

Anna was born in Yerevan, Armenia where she spent her elementary and middle school years. Upon graduation, Anna studied in an international high school in the Netherlands. Following high school, Anna moved to the US, where she attended Trinity College in Hartford, CT and received her Bachelor’s degree in Biology and Neuroscience in May, 2022. During her junior year summer, Anna joined the SURF program in SUNY Upstate Medical University and worked closely with the Taylor lab. This program allowed her to get a hands on experience in translational research in the biomedical field, and develop her understanding of scientific concepts and their application in the fields of virology and immunology. During her free time, Anna enjoys painting and baking.

SOPHIE ROTH

SURF Student

Sophie grew up in Port Washington, NY where she first gained an interest in science. After high school she started her undergraduate education at Binghamton University, where she is currently finishing her degree in Integrative Neuroscience. At her university Sophie serves on the boards of the American Medical Women’s Association and the Neuroscience Honor’s Society. Although she plans on attending medical school, Sophie has taken part in multiple neuroscience and biology labs. This past summer Sophie took part in SUNY Upstate Medical University’s SURF Program. When Sophie isn’t studying or conducting research, she enjoys spending time outdoors, making art, and EMTing.

LAUREN CLARK

PREP-UP Student

Lauren was born and raised in Theresa, New York which is located north of Syracuse. Following high school, she then attended Castleton University to earn her bachelor’s degree in Biomedical and Molecular Biology with a minor in Health in May of 2022. Lauren is now a student in Upstate Medical University's PREP-Up program. This program allows her to explore her passion for virology and infectious diseases while also learning how to work as a scientist in a graduate school laboratory. In her free time, Lauren is a volunteer at a local dog shelter and enjoys running, baking, and taking in the great outdoors!
